Are you looking for ways to become a better leader? Perhaps your team is not performing as well and your role seems to be the blame. It is important to build your self-awareness so that you can make improvements where you feel necessary. We have put together a few tips that will help you build your self-awareness effectively.

1. Consider Taking Psychometric Exams

Being a leader is SO MUCH more than just giving orders and expecting people to follow them. Leaders need to inspire and encourage while also guiding their peers. Taking tests such as the Myers-Briggs and Predictive Index, among others, will give you a pretty good idea about what you need to improve. One of the main goals of self-awareness is understanding your true self. These tests are just a couple that can help you do just that.

2. Practice Mediation

Mediation may seem like something reserved for yogis, but it is actually one of the best ways to understand your inner self. Mediation will help you to focus on the moment instead of being reactionary towards the events around you. Think about where you want to be, how to reach your goals, and what actions you are taking that may be preventing true progress.

3. Seek Feedback From Your Peers

Getting outside feedback is a great way to understand how others perceive you and how that differs from your personal perceptions. Ask your peers to give you feedback on your leadership style, your personality, and even the progress you have made along the way. This will help you to identify weaknesses while also pointing out your personal strengths.

4. Have Deep Conversations With Friends

It is important to surround yourself with people that care for you. If you have real friends, they will also give you feedback that you may not want to hear. Your friends should be able to tell you when you are doing something wrong so that you can alter your behavior. This is a great way to build self-awareness without having to worry about sabotage. Consider asking them directly if you are in doubt. Reals friends will tell you directly if you are on the right track, or if you still need some work.

5. Catalog Your Priorities and Plans

Diving deep into yourself is never easy. Once you decide to start increasing your self-awareness, you will also need to keep track of changes. Taking note of your priorities, your plans for the future and even your dreams will help you keep sight of yourself during your journey of self-discovery.

Until next time,

Be well.
