Are you tired of working all day only to make minimal progress? Perhaps you are stuck in a creative rut and can’t seem to move forward. Are endless projects keeping you from following your dreams? If so, The Power of Doing Less is a great way to turn your life around and get more done in a day.
Identify & Live Your Priorities
The first step in minimizing your workload is identifying your priorities. Know what your end goal is and how to get there. Once you have identified your goals, you can work on the specific task needed to get things done. Peripherals projects or tasks that don’t relate to your priorities will fall away which will help you reach your goals much quicker. The power of less will help you achieve more with less.
After you set up your priorities, you actually need to follow through and live in a way that will allow you to fulfill them. While living a life of focusing on your priorities may seem to limit, actually reaching your goals will be liberating. As you reach your goals through dedicated effort, you can then move on to bigger and better things.
Learn To Delegate & Decline
Part of living a minimalistic lifestyle is delegating smaller tasks that are not essential. For example, if you need to get a report done by the weekend, focus on writing while having someone else gather the images or create a PowerPoint in the meanwhile. There is nothing wrong with giving smaller tasks to someone else so that you can focus on what really matters. Another aspect of minimal living is learning to say no. This is often one of the hardest parts of living with less. Helping others and pleasing others is okay, but doing so at the expense of reaching your goals is not. Learn to say no, respectfully, so that you can minimize the number of distractions you face while living your priorities.
Manage Your Time More Effectively
Too often we try to cram as much work as possible in a day, only to end up doing several tasks poorly. Instead of trying to maximize your multi-tasking efforts, instead, focus on managing your time effectively. Set aside your most difficult task for your most productive time during the week. Eliminate accessory projects that are unimportant or simply busy work. By spending more time doing harder jobs effectively, you will have to spend less time making corrections.
Until next time, be well.
