Do you really hate your job? Does it seem like your job is so bad that it ruins your life? If so, you need to do some serious thinking about your career choices. By brainstorming and making a few small changes it may be possible to make your job not only tolerable but pleasant. However, if changing your mindset is not what is causing the trouble then it is time to put in notice. However, if your mindset is the issue, then changing your attitude in a positive way may be the answer.
1. Consider Your Work Associates
Examine the group you gravitate towards at work. There is always a batch that constantly complains about everything at work. If you gravitate towards these negative people, try finding the more positive people and spend some time with them. You may see a totally different side to some of the things that usually make your day unpleasant. However, if you notice that all you have around you is negativity and gossip then it may be time to move on.
2. Choose Positivity
Make an action plan to be happy at work. Try coming in each morning with a smile on your face. Be friendly towards all your coworkers, consistently. Never forget that while misunderstandings happen, people are human and are therefore, fallible. This includes the people that you previously shunned because you thought they were overly zealous in trying to please your supervisor. You will be surprised to find that most of them are really nice and can be helpful.
3. Get New Work Habits
Now you need to change your habits. Always be punctual to work maybe even a few minutes early. Always meet every deadline on time. Become a worker that can be counted on to do your share of the work instead of trying to avoid it. You probably need to change your attitude with your coworkers who gossip. Make it known that you have no interest in the latest juicy story about another coworker. Some things that you hear are better taken with an open mind and a closed mouth. Be advised however, if you are the only person who does not gossip, you will likely be outcast and will likely become the topic of gossip yourself.
4. Become A Go-Getter
Start volunteering for tasks that you previously thought were just too much work for what you get paid. Everyone will take notice of your willingness to take on the hard tasks. Your supervisor especially will take note. This will result in your getting more responsibility and before long, something that will really change your attitude. You may get a promotion and a raise out of the attitude change.
5. Change Your Profession
This last one is super important. Sometimes, it was not your attitude that is or was the problem, sometimes the issue is sadly the job or career itself. Instead of being angry and resentful, focus your energy on finding a better position at a different company that will appreciate your efforts and will have a healthier and safer environment overall.
Until next time,
Be Well.
